Mr. Miles was appointed Deputy Ombudsman, Complaints in May 2018.  He brings five years of experience working for the Alberta Ombudsman and Public Interest Commissioner (PIC), most recently as the Deputy Ombudsman and Public Interest Commissioner.  He began work with the Alberta office as Director of the whistleblowing program, starting in 2013.  During his tenure, he developed investigative structures, implemented an electronic case management system, identified internal reporting processes, oversaw a public awareness campaign and supervised personnel. 

In 2017 he was promoted to the position of Deputy Ombudsman and Deputy Public Interest Commissioner where he has changed and modernized the investigative processes.  He also played an important role in preparing the office for a significant expansion of jurisdiction (to include municipalities).  Ted comes from a strong policing background, having spent 33 years as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police retiring at the rank of Superintendent.  During that time he worked in small communities, integrated policing, targeting organized and serious crime.   

He was also the CEO of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team - which is an agency comprised of 9 different police services in the province of Alberta.  This group of 400+ officers worked together to solve Alberta’s most serious crimes.
