Cayman Islands Disability Policy (2014-2033)

The Cayman Islands Government has adopted the Disability Policy 2014–2033, which provides the national framework for promoting and protecting the rights, dignity, and full participation of persons with disabilities. Although the Cayman Islands does not currently have a standalone “reasonable adjustments” policy, the Disability Policy outlines the Government’s commitment to ensuring accessibility and inclusion across public services, education, employment, healthcare and the wider community. The Policy defines reasonable accommodation as modifications to facilities, schedules, equipment, or policies to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities, unless such accommodations would impose an undue hardship. These principles guide the public sector’s approach to supporting persons with disabilities, including when accessing Ombudsman services. Complaint Handling Process and Indicative Timeframes

To support transparency and help complainants understand what to expect when engaging with our Office, we have developed a detailed guide outlining each stage of our complaint handling process, including indicative timeframes. This guide explains how complaints are received, assessed, resolved informally where appropriate, or investigated formally under the Complaints (Maladministration) Act, the Police (Complaints by the Public) Act, and the Whistleblower Protection Act. While we strive to meet the service standards outlined, some matters—particularly those that are complex, multi agency, or legally sensitive—may require additional time. Where this occurs, we will keep complainants informed of any adjustments.
